A Top Entry Wireline System, or TEWS, from Future Production was delivered and installed on an 8th Gen. Drillship in Q1-2023. Client required a “non-rental” unit, with added improved functionality.

Smaller, lighter and more features

The traditional solution is heavy and has a large volume, making installation and operation overly complicated. As mentioned, the Future Production Top Entry Wireline System (TEWS) will comply with all relevant standards and also include the following:

  • Dropped object prevention
  • Lifting Equipment and Operations
  • Dropped Objects and Inspection Standards

TEWS is tailored to suit the TDX-1500 & 1250 Top Drives. FP’s compact design reduces the unit volume, combined with increased functionality. All this with integrated features that are traditionally not built-in with a standard unit design.

The unit accommodates for multiple choice of wireline (sizes -3/16 – ½ inch, with correct size wire cutters) and a bleed-off function to ensure no pressure is trapped under the packer. Even more system details are available upon request, making this tool enhance both operational activity and safety on your rig.

A collaborative effort

In collaboration, Future Production and the client who shared their detailed operational experiences, traditional limitations have been removed, creating an improved design. The tailored solution offered by FP can boast with the following attributes:

  1. Short rig-up time.
  2. Lightweight and easy handling.
  3. Compact size due to a roller design as opposed to a large entry sheave.
  4. Flexible design functionality: By changing the inserts in the packer and roller grooves, various size wireline diameters can be used (typ. 3/16 – 1⁄2 inch).

Unique needs

The client was seeking a “non-rental” wireline unit, with added improved functionality for their 8th Gen. Rig, which has been in operation since mid-2023. Having worked with Future Production on several projects, on multiple occasions, the contact point was already established, and a solution was created in a timely manner.

Future Production’s foresight also ensured that there were no issues interfacing with the proprietary equipment on board, implementing a drop-in solution that requires minimal training.

Summary

Off-the-shelf solutions can be fine under certain circumstances, but for specialized operations, a bespoke solution will both enhance efficiency and lower the amount of NPT. One might think that tailored systems will dramatically increase CAPEX, however, the cost difference is modest. When you consider the benefits,

the overall ROI outweighs the higher cost.

Future Production´s long experience within the energy sector and industrial projects shows that there is always a solution to your project.
